Resilience

Resilience

A children's book to encourage resilience, persistence, and to help children bounce back from challenges and adversity.

Meet Emmi! She is resilient, independent and courageous. She always tries her best, and even when the going gets tough, Emmi never gives in. This charming story uses verse and beautiful illustrations to model resilience, persistence, and the ability to face challenges with tenacity.

Children who are resilient are brave, curious, confident and problem solvers. Nurturing these traits in our children will go a long way in helping them face the many challenges they will encounter throughout their lives.

Also included are Discussion Questions for parents, caregivers and educators, and suggested activities to promote children's resilience.

Best suited for children aged 4 to 9 years.

Testimonials

"Resilience is a delightful rhyming story with lovely illustrations. Children can really connect with the text as they have all experienced and overcome some of life's challenges explored in the story – such as learning to walk, swim, ride a bike or start school! There are guiding discussion questions for each page of the book to help teachers and families explore the qualities of resilience and bravery. The guiding questions provide great ideas for conversations with children, with a focus on resilience and being brave when things feel hard. I highly recommend this story for all children, particularly those who tend to give up easily or are reluctant to try!"
Helen Basham, Vice principal, elementary school teacher of 25 years experience

"As an educator, I'm always looking for high-quality resources to use to support my students developmental growth; that’s why I was so impressed when I came across the wide range of books by Jayneen Sanders. Recently, I have used 'Resilience' to help support my students with developing their own resilience. It applies to life within and outside of the classroom and is a must-have tool in any school or home. As a mom of three, I use this book when my own children are faced with life's challenges. My youngest is starting school next year and from conversations we've had, she's feeling anxious. I'll be using this book to support her during this time of change to help her embrace this next chapter with confidence."
Lauren Whitehead, elementary school teacher

"Beautifully written and illustrated, 'Resilience' deals with big concepts in a simple and relatable way. Readers follow Emmi's journey from a baby to a school-age child, where she encounters many everyday challenges faced by children, showing resilience and persistence every step of the way. Children can easily connect these experiences to their own lives, and realize that they too, have many strengths and are resilient. This book has prompted many valuable discussions and lessons within my classroom, such as using our strengths to overcome difficulties, the importance of being persistent and dealing with disappointment or grief. This book is an asset to every school and home library — a must read for our young people to understand and build resilience and self-esteem."
Yale Mercieca, elementary school teacher, author

" This book was a very good read for both my child and myself. I read this book to my 5 year old. I didn’t think he would understand it at first because the book's target demographic seemed a little older. But he was interested and when I asked him about the book at the end, he was able to define what resilience was and how to tackle different situations. "
