Why this Education Session Matters

Child Sexual Abuse prevention can be a difficult topic to discuss among the broader community for many reasons, including; cultural taboos, misguided beliefs about the types of people or communities it effects, and concerns of age-appropriateness.

In an effort to address some of these obstacles, spread awareness and provide strategies for families and communities to combat child sexual abuse, Educate2Empower is offering expert-led education sessions presented by Jayneen Sanders, an internationally recognised author and advocate on Body Safety, Consent and Child Abuse Prevention.

Libraries and community hubs play a crucial role in family and community education. By working together, we can ensure that the people in your community, caring for and working with children, are appropriately educated in abuse prevention and are given the knowledge to implement Body Safety in their home, school or workplace.

  • When and How to Start Body Safety and Consent Education

Starting Body Safety and Consent Education early is empowering. Children, knowing that their body is their body from a young age, is not only strength-building but will go a long way in helping to keep them safe from sexual abuse.

  • Statistic, Prevalence and Risk Factors

1 in 4 people will experience sexual abuse before reaching adulthood with the majority of perpetrators being known and trusted by the child. By understanding the statistics on prevalence, varying types of abuse and the different categories of perpetrators, we can dispel common misconceptions about perpetrators and victims.

  • Grooming and Red Flags

Abusers use a range of sophisticated and subtle grooming techniques that take many forms. This session will explore some of the methods abusers use to gain and exploit the trust of children and the adults around them both online and offline.

  • Body Safety Skills

The education session will cover the core Body Safety skills and how parents, educators and professionals can implement them in their homes, school or workplace. This includes: body boundaries, consent and respect, establishing a safety network, early warning signs, private parts, private and public spaces, secrets and surprises, safe and unsafe touch, and what kids should do if they fell unsafe

  • Responding to Disclosures

When a child discloses sexual abuse they have done something very difficult and brave. Our reaction to a child's disclosure is crucial to their ongoing wellbeing. In this component, we look at how to immediately support a child who has disclosed abuse, what steps to take next and where to find support.

  • Common Concerns and Questions

The session will wrap up by addressing any concerns or questions attendees may have regarding the presentation and Body Safety Education, in general.

FREE Picture and Activity Book Bundle

Attendees will receive a FREE My Body! What I Say Goes! Activity Book Bundle. My Body! What I Say Goes! introduces adults and children to the key Body Safety skills paramount in keeping them safe. The discussion questions within the picture book and the accompanying 16-page Activity Book will reinforce these crucial and life-changing skills.
