Starting Body Safety and Consent Education early is empowering. Children, knowing that their body is their body from a young age, is not only strength-building but will go a long way in helping to keep them safe from sexual abuse.

Statistic, Prevalence and Risk Factors
1 in 4 people will experience sexual abuse before reaching adulthood with the majority of perpetrators being known and trusted by the child. By understanding the statistics on prevalence, varying types of abuse and the different categories of perpetrators, we can dispel common misconceptions about perpetrators and victims.

Grooming and Red Flags
Abusers use a range of sophisticated and subtle grooming techniques that take many forms. This session will explore some of the methods abusers use to gain and exploit the trust of children and the adults around them both online and offline.

Body Safety Skills
The education session will cover the core Body Safety skills and how parents, educators and professionals can implement them in their homes, school or workplace. This includes: body boundaries, consent and respect, establishing a safety network, early warning signs, private parts, private and public spaces, secrets and surprises, safe and unsafe touch, and what kids should do if they fell unsafe

Responding to Disclosures
When a child discloses sexual abuse they have done something very difficult and brave. Our reaction to a child's disclosure is crucial to their ongoing wellbeing. In this component, we look at how to immediately support a child who has disclosed abuse, what steps to take next and where to find support.

The session will wrap up by addressing any concerns or questions attendees may have regarding the presentation and Body Safety Education, in general.
